hello world!

Yesterday’s Xbox Showcase was huge and packed with new trailers and reveals. A few are still missing from the list, but those games are probably a bit further out, as Xbox has been better about keeping updates tighter in the past few years. Here is a list of the top showers of the showcase.

Forza Motorsport Release Date

I know most people don’t care about car games, but they are important, and Forza was due for some news. We can finally say it is coming on October 10th and will be one of Xbox’s major fall titles next to Starfield. If you are a fan of car games, the rebooted Forza Motorsport is looking to be one of the most prestigious car simulation titles to date. I, for one, will certainly be burning some virtual rubber when it hits Game Pass.

Kunitsu, Classic Capcom Action Title

This one came out of nowhere and was a very welcome surprise. Fans of classic Capcom action games like Onimusha, Okami, and Devil May Cry will take notice of Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess. If the crazy-looking demons and combat do not grab your attention, the art style and color palette used certainly will. It’s difficult to tell what the game will ultimately be, but I am here for it and whatever nonsense Capcom has in store.

Star Wars Outlaws Reveal

I was fully expecting Massive Entertainment’s take on Star Wars to be The Division with a Star Wars sticker slapped on it. Yesterday’s trailer for Star Wars Outlaws threw my expectations into the Death Star’s garbage compactor really fast. In Outlaws, you will play Kay Vess, a scoundrel trying to make her way in the universe, and it is set between the 5th and 6th films. I am certainly ready for this type of story-driven open-world game traveling amongst systems with my little furry lizard cat friend.

Hellblade II Trailer with 2024 Release Window

Senua’s Saga has been the big carrot on the end of the proverbial stick for Xbox for years now. I expressed my love and desire for the sequel in my article, Could Hellblade Be Xbox’s God of War, and still believe it will be something truly special, just like the original. Ninja Theory has proven that they are masters at storytelling and creating unique and incredible experiences. You owe it to yourself to experience the first game, which they self-published and produced. I can only imagine what they come up with for a fully funded and fleshed-out sequel. This latest trailer gives another small taste and a 2024 window. C’mon, 2024! It’s going to be a hell of a year!

South of Midnight Announcement

Compulsion Games has been quiet since its acquisition by Microsoft and release of We Happy Few, followed by the 2019 DLC Lightbearer. Enter South of Midnight, a macabre third-person action-adventure set in the deep South. Staring Hazel, a woman battling creatures of southern folklore, this looks to be Compulsion Game’s sweet spot when it comes to style and genre. It was sadly only a cinematic trailer, but one that got me interested, and I cannot wait to learn more.

Clockwork Revolution Announcement

InXile Entertainment is most well known for the Wasteland series, The Bard’s Tale, and Torment. All of which are intense and narrative-heavy RPGs. Clockwork Revolution looks like the studio is getting a chance to stretch its legs and creativity. This looks almost Bioshock esq on the surface, but as you look, there is certainly more to it. Described as “a time-bending steampunk first-person RPG” by the developers, that implies we will see a lot of the team’s roots mixed in with what appears to be an intense and clever shooter experience. I typically am not one for CRPGs, as InXile is known for, but this is a game I can see myself dumping hours into. Sadly, we have no idea when to expect this one.

Avowed Trailer with 2024 Release Window

We finally got a new trailer for Avowed and a lengthy one (relative to the teaser). This new trailer from Obsidian’s upcoming First-person RPG looks amazing and will do exactly what Outer Wilds did. Obsidian has come a long way in the past decade and makes truly incredible games. I had a good idea of what to expect from Avowed, and I am very pleased with what we saw. I look forward to getting my spells on when it launches next year.

Xbox Series S with 1TB HDD in Black

Surprisingly Xbox has revealed that they will start shipping a New Xbox Series S Model in September that will be black and come with a larger 1 TB HDD for a retail MSRP of $349. This could be just the thing I needed to have another Xbox in my office and not lug my Series X back and forth from the living room.

Fable Cinematic Trailer

This Trailer was Perfect! Not only did it give us an idea of what to expect in the upcoming Fable reboot, but it also had an amazing performance by Richard Ayoade. I can only hope he will be a character in the full game and that there will be more comedic cameos. The trailer hits all the notes of what made Fable great with its British style, humor, and chicken punting! Fable is probably still too far out to say when we will get it as the trailer did not feature any gameplay or date, but I am happy knowing that it is getting the care and love it deserves to make it amazing when it is done.

That was the top Nine announcements from the Xbox Showcase. There will be more on Tuesday with the extended Showcase as well. What did you think? Did we hit the mark, or do you think we missed something? Let us know.
