Mini Reviews for the ADHD Gamer – Star Wars Outlaws, Avatar & Link’s Awakening

hello world!

As gamers, we fall into two categories: one that gets hyper-focused on a single game. The other has what I like to call “Gamer-ADHD” and plays lots of different games at once. Like a chef with multiple burners cooking some bangers. I fall into the latter.

Here is everything I’m playing, from new releases to some old classics that are new to me. For reference, these aren’t full reviews; they’re more of a laid-back game chat about my thoughts and impressions. Without further ado… let’s begin!

Star Wars Outlaws

Let’s tackle the newest release first. Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws! I actually really like this game, and I’m having a lot of fun with it. I don’t believe it’s as bad as what many people make it out to be. Is the gameplay a little repetitive? Sure. It’s no secret that the stealth and gameplay elements get stale fast, constantly sneaking around and the same feeling shoot-outs. Does it have some bugs? Definitely. I’ve not finished this game yet, with about nine hours of playtime and exploration. I got to say, the bugs, in my case, haven’t been huge deals, and I’ve only had two. Both were some weird clip-ins that lasted five seconds. However, that shouldn’t discredit the other bugs others have encountered because I’ve seen some that look infuriating. I did, however, have the game crash on PS5 once.

Kay & Nix wandering the shady streets

Graphically, it’s pretty in my opinion. Kay’s face feels a little lifeless at times, but the worlds, the ships, everything feels like Star Wars, and I’m here for it. As a die-hard Star Wars fan, I adore this game. Just wandering the streets of different planets and taking in the atmosphere. Playing Sabacc and making different choices throughout the game is where it shines; right now, I’m getting in good with Crimson Dawn. Becoming lost and swept up in the seedy underbelly of the galaxy far, far away has been a fantastic experience. If you’re not a die-hard fan or you’re burnt out on Star Wars, I get it. But I, for one, am really enjoying my time.

ADHD score: will commit to completion.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

I adore the Avatar films by James Cameron. I think the world and environments are beautiful in the movies, and the stories are fun. Frontiers of Pandora is along the same vein as the movies in that they’re absolutely visually stunning and simply fun! Is the story original? Maybe not so much, but that’s ok because the combat and fighting are smooth. Think Far Cry, but you’re a towering, fast Na’vi. I loved just exploring the beautiful Pandora and interacting with the fauna and wildlife, including riding Mountain Banshees; it’s all just really good stuff. The soundtrack is nice here as well, basically being straight from the movies. If you’re looking for a true Avatar experience, this is definitely your safest bet.

ADHD score: maintaining hyper-focus.

Absolutely stunning and vivid colors.

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening (Switch)

Oh. My. GOD! I adore this game!!! I very briefly played the original 1993 Links Awakening on the Gameboy, so this is largely a new experience for me. I have to say it now…THE GRAPHICS ARE STUNNING. As soon as I opened the game and saw the graphics, the beautiful anime-style cut scene at the beginning, the gorgeous bright colors of the world, and the cute chibi-styled art the game is going for, I was absolutely sucked in and fell in love.

The art direction is super cute!!!

Link’s Awakening feels like a proper game in every sense of the word, promoting exploration and fun battles. Most importantly, you have to read and actually THINK! I love it all. The gameplay loop is addictive: find a key, defeat the bosses, explore, repeat. Usually, with an RPG like this, I feel overwhelmed…but not here! I constantly want to explore and go further. The world here feels rich and fascinating, and I am honestly excited to sink more hours into this amazing game.

ADHD score: Let it consume you.

With that being said, what are you playing? A new game? Maybe an old game that is new to you? Let me know in the comments down below, and let’s talk about video games!
