Gears of War on PlayStation?! Why I’m Excited and Terrified For Gears of War: Reloaded

hello world!

Holy shitballs, Gears of War, one of the biggest franchises on Xbox, is coming to PlayStation 5 in the form of Gears of War: Reloaded this year! I never thought I would say those words, but I guess anything can happen at this point. I’ve been a fan of Gears of War since I got Gears of War 2 with my Xbox 360 back in 2011. Since then, I’ve played through the original trilogy, the remake of the first game on Xbox One, Gears of War: Judgement, and most of Gears of War 4 (I’ll get to Gears 5 soon, I promise). So yeah, I’m super excited to play through the game that started it all once again on PlayStation, but I’m also terrified at what that means.

Let’s Get Excited!

Linking up with the bois. (Microsoft/The Coalition)

Ok, first things first, the fact that I’ll be able to play Gears of War on a PlayStation in general is exciting. Over the past few years, I’ve become way more of a PlayStation/Nintendo gamer, leaving my Xbox to gather dust in exile. If I wanted to play games like Gears of War, I’d have to dig out the old gal to do so, which was always a pain in the ass. But now if I want to play it (well, the first one at this stage), I’ll just be able to use my preferred console! And on a side note, I kinda prefer the PlayStation controller to the Xbox controller; I’m not a fan of the layout.

But enough about just being able to play Gears on PlayStation, why am I excited about this new version of the game? Reloaded is an updated version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, a remake of the original Gears of War. Ultimate Edition introduced a variety of improvements, such as general gameplay fixes, updated visuals, and an overall smoother playing experience of a now nearly 20-year-old game. Reloaded will carry over all of these existing improvements while adding even better visuals (we getting 4K Gears baby!), but also cross-play across every system. You read that right, you’ll be able to play Gears of War with friends even if you’re on different consoles. So now I don’t have to cramp my hands with an Xbox controller to play Gears with friends!

Now For The Scary Stuff

Me vs the Insanity trophy. (Microsoft/The Coalition)

After all that, what could possibly be terrifying about this news? There are no downsides whatsoever, I hear you say, but my trophy hunting soul is crying out in fear. In the Gears of War games, each entry has an achievement simply called Insanity. These achievements require you to do increasingly stupid, time-consuming, and all around bullshit things in order to unlock them. I had thought that I’d never have to go through those trials and tribulations, because I never was big on achievements. But with this news, and the knowledge that I’ll absolutely be playing this game, the realisation sunk in. I’ll have to put myself through the torture, the agony, the pure horror of these trophies in order to unlock the elusive platinum trophy for Gears of War (which I really want). I still have some time to mentally prepare myself before the game releases on the 26th of August, but that may not be enough.

He just wants a hug. (Microsoft/The Coalition)

Despair over trophies aside, I’m very much excited to play through Gears of War: Reloaded on PS5 this August. And who knows, if this game does well, maybe they’ll give the other games in the series the same treatment. Or better yet, bring Halo over to PlayStation as well. Who am I kidding, hell will freeze over by that point.

Or will it?

Are you excited for Gears of War: Reloaded? Did you play the original? Did you even know about the series? Let us know in the comments where we can debate which controller is better, PlayStation or Xbox.

Very excited by this. I had the OG Xbox and loved playing Gears back then and would love to revisit this on my PlayStation. It's nice to see some exclusives cross over more.

Another Benoit Blanc Mystery? Sign me up! Rian Johnson is back at it again with another murder mystery for our beloved Detective Benoit Blanc to solve in Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. In the age of live-action remakes, Disney is at it again with a remake of the beloved sensation, Moana (2016)... A mere 10 years after the initial release, mind you. While the footage is heavy on the CGI, it effectively captures the beauty of the original animations and features beloved characters like Hei Hei. But […]

Our first look at the highly anticipated sequel to The Devil Wears Prada is finally here! In the words of Nigel, I guess "... it's time for a promotion." Will you be watching? In theaters May 1, 2026.

It's the holiday season, and if you're looking for that special something for a Star Wars-loving spouse or child, then nothing says you have too much money than buying Boba Fett's (Jeremy Bulloch) Hero Screen EE-3 Carbine Rifle from The Empire Strikes Back. It's estimated to go for more than $460,000.  That said, this would […]
