2025 was a banger for video games.
It makes you wonder whether the games industry has prematurely scheduled their releases to try to get out in front of a gaming behemoth that was supposed to come out last year but has been delayed twice recently - a game that may or may not be mentioned later on in this list. So how can 2026 be as much of a banger as 2025? For my sanity, for my FOMO, please make it less of a stacked year!
However, it doesn’t look like my wish will be granted because there is a crapload of games I’m looking at either buying, trying out, or maybe just watching a playthrough on Twitch. In fact, there are so many that I’m splitting my most anticipated list into Triple-A and non-Triple-A. I’m also trying to only choose one entry per publisher. “Trying” is the keyword there, so please be a little bit forgiving of me.
Without further ado, here are the top 10 Triple-A video games to be excited for in 2026.
How could I not have Grand Theft Auto 6 on this list? Regardless of my own feelings (I really couldn’t give a flying f*ck. I’m not gonna play it), the Rockstar juggernaut is due to become the best-selling game of the generation, the decade, maybe of allllll time! The Vice City dual-protagonist installment in the GTA franchise will be the first entry in 13 years, and you know it’ll knock it out of the park. I’m sure that Rockstar will have focused on an inane realism that people will fixate on for the next decade, just like those RDR2 horse balls.
If you like that sort of thing, then GTA 6 probably can’t come soon enough.
Hitman: World of Assassination already feels like a kick-ass spy game, so it’s no wonder IO Interactive were hit up for a James Bond game! The more I hear about this game, the more interested I get. It’s gonna be hella weird, for sure, with Lenny Kravitz lending his likeness to the game as one of its villains, but you’ve got to think that, if they can sort out the performance and frame rate issues shown in the last State of Play, this is going to scratch that double-o itch for people. Aside from Kravitz, it has a great cast, sporting Patrick Gibson, Gemma Chan, and Lennie James in lead roles.
But, man, is it gonna be strange to not have a bald head and a garrote wire in hand in an IO game.
I’m hyped for Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra for two reasons. The first is that Amy Hennig is writing and directing and I, like most people here at CouchSoup.com, FREAKING LOVE the Uncharted series of which she helmed the original trilogy. Hennig is a genius and it’s been far too long since she had a game actually get released. The second is OMG DID YOU SEE THE STATE OF THAT TRAILER - IT LOOKS LIKE A MOVIE! Ahem. Khary Payton is playing Azzuri, this game’s Black Panther, a character who has gone far too long without a video game adaptation. And, you know, we’re probably going to be beating up Nazis, right? Nazi bashing is one of my favorite pastimes.
In games.
For lawyers reading, I don’t condone assault. Even if they do deserve the punch in the nuts I’d give them.
FromSoftware.
Do I need to say anything else for you to get hyped about this game? They don’t really miss, right? To be honest, the only FromSoft game I’ve ever played is Bloodborne, but since Elden Ring, their reputation has gone from cult following to mainstream popularity. The Duskbloods is the next in the pipeline for the souls-specialists, but intriguingly, it’s a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive AND it’s an online multiplayer PvPvE game. Nintendo and online isn’t usually a match made in heaven, and I know from experience because I hate the really janky multiplayer stuff in Bloodborne. However, they did do something pretty good with Nightreign, so who knows.
I just keep thinking, though: FromSoftware doesn't miss.
Ever since the first trailer was released showing the slick as f*ck combat, I’ve been extremely interested in Phantom Blade Zero. Coming from S-GAME, this kungfupunk action-RPG lets you be a badass samurai who only has a limited time left to live. I want to keep away from the descriptor “Soulslike” because I think that’s not quite right, but from what we have seen, there are some sick, challenging boss fights and insane action sequences.
The big question here is the developer, S-GAME. This is their first Triple-A console game, having transitioned from mobile. It's a big risk, but COME ON! This looks awesome!
It’s a big year for Xbox with their 25th anniversary in November, and they’ve got a lot of games lined up. Gears of War E-Day, Halo: Campaign Evolved, and Fable are three of the big hitters, but nothing touches Playground’s next installment of Forza Horizon. Forza Horizon 6 takes the series to Tokyo and the surrounding area, and I have no doubt in my mind that it will deliver the most amazing arcade-y racing experience since the last entry. I know that they have two different teams, but I sincerely hope that Playground hasn’t taken their eyes off the ball while they also develop Fable.
I just wanna Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift this b*tch!
CAPCOM has at least three MEGA games on their slate for 2026. Onimusha: Way of the Sword, the long-awaited Pragmata, and, of course, Resident Evil Requiem. The next entry in the cult horror franchise is the first mainline entry since Resident Evil 6 (the less we say about that, the better) that isn’t fronted by Ethan Winters. Who is to say whether Rose will make an appearance, but one thing’s for sure: WE GOT LEON KENNEDY BACK, BAYYYYBEEEEEEEEEEEE! Not only that, though, but Requiem also puts us back in the crater that is Raccoon City. It’s all very exciting.
Have I convinced you that I didn’t wuss out and quit Resi 7 after only playing an hour because I was too scared? I just spoiled it, didn’t I?
Batman? Awesome. LEGO? Awesome. LEGO Batman? Awwwwwwwesommmmeeee.
It’s been a while since we’ve had a LEGO Batman entry, and it’s been four years since The Skywalker Saga. I’ve been starved of great LEGO content, but for no longer. What’s more exciting is that this game is styled after Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy and the Arkham Asylum games! Conversely to other Danish toy brick games, there are only seven playable characters, which may raise a few red flags for you, but I’m not too worried. The open world Gotham and Arkham fighting mechanics look freaking sweet.
I’m Batman. Or, at least I’m gonna be when this releases.
It was difficult to choose a PlayStation Studios game this year with Saros, Marvel’s Wolverine and… I guess Marathon (LOL). However, on a personal level, there could only be one winner: Logan himself, Wolverine. Fronted by friend of the channel, Liam McIntyre, and developed by superhero game masters, Insomniac, Marvel’s Wolverine looks like a ton of fun. Insomniac’s choice to go hyper-violent is a welcome one, giving everyone their childhood fantasy of having dagger hands and ripping people limb from limb. Give it to me now! I want to see what the hubbub is about, bub!
Cue the X-Men ‘97 theme song!
Remedy has a cult following. People who love the Remedy-verse LOVE the Remedy-verse. I really liked Max Payne, but I never really got into Alan Wake. Control, though, is a different matter. I can’t wait to see what the long-awaited sequel has to offer. This time focusing on Jesse Faden’s brother Dylan, Control Resonant ventures outside of the confines of the FBC, into NYC. There also seems to be a switch-up with the combat, too. Whereas Jesse had the cool-as-f*ck Service Weapon, Dylan seems to be more melee-oriented.
I cannot wait for Control Resonant so I can see what new supernatural objects have in store for the Fadens this time.
There you have it. Those were the top 10 Triple-A video games to get excited for in 2026. Do you agree with this list? What did I snub that you’re really mad at? Let me know in the comments.
