Culture Crave on X Twitter confirmed via Deadline that Season 3 of House of the Dragon will start with the Battle of the Gullet - “one of the bloodiest sea battles in Westeros history.”
Before I groan too loudly, let’s check the comments.
Well, that was helpful. Ok, but let’s get serious for a second. As all over the place the comments are, starting S3 off with a battle seems necessary after the previous season that could have been an email (thanks Mikey Romero).
There is a LOT that needs to happen depending on how they try to end S3. According to Fandom.com’s page of The Dance of The Dragon, the timeline looks like this:
If we assume this timeline is correct, currently we are at 2.5. A little earlier if we factor in the Battle of the Gullet happening in the season opener. Technically speaking, the pace of the show will need to increase. If we continue the time spent with conversations via eyes (i.e. wasting time staring at each other) and building up to battles, the timeline for Season 3 will end unsatisfactorily.
The Battle of the Gullet is known as one of the bloodiest and deadliest fights in George R.R. Martin’s stories of Westeros. After a full season leading up to it, here is hoping it lives up to the 2-year anticipation and then some. Maybe it will get us back into the Game of Thrones atmosphere we came here for.
Grumpy or “fear my wrath” look?
We do know, based on IMDB casting, that one battle has to take place because of the lack of said actor after a certain episode. I’m trying to remain spoiler free, ok? If you guys figure out who that is, that’s on you for looking. Here’s to hoping they don’t rush this particular event and they just aren’t focusing on that character for too many episodes.
I was able to chat with the lovely Decoding Dragons former Co-host Liza about the finale, and we are thinking Tumbleton will be the finale. MAYBE. But we aren’t going to go too far into it.
So what do you think? Are you going to be watching Season 3? Let us know in the comments, but be sure to declare Team Green or Team Black and just know if you’re Team Green the comment will get denied. The mic is still on? Hello? You can hear me? Ignore what I said. RHAENYRA FOREVERRRrrrrrrr…….!!

Growing up NOT in civilization in the mountains of West Virginia, Michelle found adventure in books, movies and games. She was raised very untraditionally on Star Trek: The Original Series, and Monty Python’s Flying Circus. She found the Harry Potter books to be her one true obsession, and discovered gaming with her family would be some of the best memories she could hope for. Now living in Texas, she is still trying to find her passion in her career, but her hobbies remain the same.
Team Gre.....ah, It won't let me type Gre.... weird. Anyways here's hoping for a season that actually feels like something happens and characters written with a personality besides "I live to hate this person." I think I'm going to just go back and watch Seasons 1-4 of GOT.
