Are you looking for your next anime to binge? Maybe you’re tired of watching the same old generic characters, monsters, and factions over and over again. Maybe, you want to watch a show that grabs your attention and doesn’t let it go for over 40 episodes. If you said yes to these questions, then That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is for you.
This unique take on the isekai genre is one of the best series currently running. You won’t be starved for content with two seasons, multiple specials, and a movie. With all this content, you might be hesitant to jump in without some background information. Worry not, dear reader, because we at Couch Soup have got you covered. We’ll give you a quick introduction to each of the notable characters you’ll meet in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime.
The main character of the series is Rimuru Tempest. Formerly known as Satoru Mikami (before an unfortunate incident with a knife). After becoming fast friends with a dragon, Rimuru sets out to create a peaceful life in this new world. Things won’t be easy for this reincarnated slime, but some new friends, a new home called Tempest, and some unexpected upgrades will make for one hell of an adventure.
The dragon that Rimuru meets when he reincarnates, Veldora the Storm Dragon. Having been sealed away for thousands of years, he’s a bit lonely and desperate for friendship. When a lone slime makes its way to his prison, he jumps at the chance to become friends. One promise later, Veldora’s prison is swallowed up by his new best friend Rimuru as they begin to find a way to free him from imprisonment.
A direwolf and Rimuru’s first companion after Veldora. After attacking a goblin village that Rimuru was staying at, Ranga’s father, the Direwolf Boss, was defeated in battle by Rimuru. After this defeat, Ranga and the other direwolves pledged their loyalty to Rimuru. Ranga becomes a trusted companion to Rimuru, helping him travel all around the land and destroy his enemies with devastating lightning.
The leader of a group of ogres who mistakes Rimuru for the one who destroyed their village. After the misunderstanding is cleared up, Benimaru and his group join up with Rimuru and his growing village and evolve into kijin. Being a master swordsman with the ability to control fire, Benimaru is one of the most vital members of Rimuru’s group. What he lacks in social skills, he makes up for in strength and dependability.
The princess of the kijin and Benimaru’s younger sister. Shuna handles most of the cooking and crafting that needs to be done around the town of Tempest. Shuna tries her best to help Rimuru and the others in any way she can. She can handle herself in a fight as well but prefers to make sure everyone has a place to relax at the end of the day.
This badass with a massive sword is Shion, and she is one tough customer. Another member of Benimaru’s kijin group, Shion, joins Rimuru with the rest of the ogres. She quickly proves herself to be a valuable ally to Tempest, rising to become Rimuru’s personal secretary. While she may excel in things when it comes to combat, her true talent is being able to make the most repulsive food you’ve ever seen.
The resident ninja of Tempest and another kijin, Souei. After joining up with Rimuru, Souei becomes invaluable to Rimuru and Tempest. He provides strategic intel and surveillance to help keep Tempest one step ahead of enemies. He may look cold and unfeeling on the outside, but he’s just a big softy on the inside.
Hakurou is the wise old man that taught the rest of the kijin everything they know. Having mastered the blade at a young age, he’s almost unbeatable. Another one of Rimuru’s most trusted fighters, being able to cut down hordes of enemies in an instant. His teaching reflects this tenacity as he trains the next generation in the way of the sword.
Even though he’s considered the weakest of the kijin, Kurobe is still a valuable member of Tempest. As the best Blacksmith in Tempest, Kurobe is responsible for forging anything the town needs. He can make pretty much anything with the right materials. Kurobe reminds Rimuru of his former life and feels a sort of kinship with this lovable blacksmith.
Shizu is like Rimuru as she was transported to this new world after she died. Unlike Rimuru, though, she wasn’t reincarnated as a monster and instead retained her original body. Shizu controls Ifrit, a powerful fire spirit, and uses that power to help those in need. She usually wears a distinctive mask, but underneath the mask, she looks a lot like Rimuru in his human form. I wonder why that is?
The best character in the whole damn series. Milim Nava is one of the original demon lords and the niece of Veldora. A bundle full of energy and power, Milim travels wherever she wants, doing whatever she wants. After a chance encounter with Rimuru and some honey, she becomes Rimuru’s official bestie for restie! She’s also one of the most powerful characters in the series, one of the funniest in the series, is the most fun to watch, and has some of the best fight scenes and storylines (can you tell I’m a fan yet).
And there you have it, everything you need to know about most of the main characters in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. There are tons more characters in the series, but I’ll let you discover those for yourself when you watch the complete series on Crunchyroll in either Sub or Dub. And keep it locked on Couch Soup, as we’ll have even more Slime content coming your way soon!
