hello world!

Springtime is here, which means flowers are blooming, birds are chirping, and Crunchyroll is getting ready to bring a new season of anime to your screens. Crunchyroll has dropped its schedule for the upcoming Spring anime season, and there is a lot to be excited about. There are some returning series alongside new ones to keep you surprised. With all these exciting series dropping this season, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. But that’s what we at Couch Soup are for because we’ve hand-picked some anime that you should keep your eye on this Spring anime season.

Kaiju No. 8

A manga that has taken the world by storm will be getting its long-awaited anime adaptation next month: Kaiju No. 8. Think Pacific Rim but without the giant mechs and instead a person who can turn into one of the monsters but has to hide their ability out of fear of being dissected. That is the story of Kafka, a glorified monster janitor who cleans up the dead kaiju after the Japan Defence Force takes care of business (killing kaiju). After failing multiple times to join the Force, a twist of fate gives Kafka a chance to fulfill his dream of fighting kaiju alongside his childhood friend Mina (who’s one of the strongest members of the force). I’ve been a fan of this series since I first started the manga when volume one dropped, and I’m super excited to see Production I.G bring this fantastic series to life on April 13th.

Konosuba Season 3

It’s no secret that I love Konosuba (my first article for Couch Soup was me gushing about the series). I thoroughly enjoyed the Megumin spin-off that aired last year, and ever since then, I’ve been eagerly awaiting season 3. I won’t have to wait much longer because season 3 is dropping this Spring anime season. It’s been five years since the Legend of Crimson film and seven years since season 2 ended, so it has been a hot minute since we last saw Kazuma and the gang. But with a change in anime studio from Studio Deen to Drive and those long years of waiting behind us, the crazy antics of Kazuma, Aqua, Megumin, and Darkness are returning to bring laughter once again on April 10th.

Wind Breaker

Wind Breaker is a new anime that caught my eye when I was looking at the Crunchyroll lineup. From the title alone, I thought this series might be some type of fantasy show where the main character has wind-based abilities. Boy, was I way off the mark; this series is about rowdy teens beating each other up! Created by Satoru Nii, Wind Breaker takes place in a super school of delinquents called Furin High School. The school has become renowned for its fights, and that can attract all types of challengers. This is where our main man, Haruka Sakura, comes in. He’s a 1st-year student who has come to fight his way to the top of Furin High School. I don’t know much else, but with the promise of lots of fighting and being animated by Cloverworks, I’m keen to check out Wind Breaker when it starts on April 4th.

Laid Back Camp Season 3

Who doesn’t love watching cute anime characters doing cute anime things? Monsters, that’s who. But they’re the ones who’ll be missing out on the 3rd season of one of the best slice-of-life series you can watch: Laid Back Camp. This super chill series animated by 8bit is all about a group of friends camping in various locations around Japan and all the nuts and bolts involved. I adored the first two seasons (with season 2 recently receiving an English dub), and I’m ready for more camping goodness. I’m looking forward to seeing Rin, Nadeshiko, and their friends explore Japan and find new places to camp and bond. If you haven’t watched this series yet, I implore you to do so. You’ve still got plenty of time to catch up before season 3 drops on April 4th.

Viral Hit

This is definitely one of the weirder series in the line-up, but damn does it look entertaining, and it’s called Viral Hit. Based on the manhwa by Taejun Park and Kim Junghyun and animated by Okuruto Noboru, Viral Hit is about a scrawny high school kid named Hobin Yu who is constantly bullied. So, how does this kid go about stopping these bullies from picking on him? Why, by fighting each of them and live-streaming it to the website NewTube (legally distinct name we got here). With help from an anonymous online channel, Hobin is turning his bullying misfortune into cold, hard cash baby! This series looks like it’s going to be balls to the walls fun. It’s the type of crazy that I love to see. I’m very interested to see how this series progresses when it starts on April 10th.

And there are five anime coming to Crunchyroll this Spring season that you should keep your eye on. There’s plenty more coming down the pipeline, so I’m sure you’ll find a new or returning series for you. We’ll be covering these series and more, so keep it locked to Couch Soup for all of the anime goodness to feed your hungry nerd soul.
