That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is one series where you can’t get enough of it. They could make countless novels, manga, and seasons and I’d be asking for more. Well, it looks like we’re getting a whole lot more. Fresh off the heels of its theatrical outing, The Scarlet Bond, season 3 has been confirmed to be coming sometime next year. But what if you’ve forgotten what happened at the end of season two? How will you know what’s going to happen next? Don’t fret because we here at Couch Soup will give you all the important bits of information you need to know before season 3.
At the end of season 2, Rimuru had just given Clayman the ass-kicking he deserved. Milim was revealed not to be under any mind control. Two Demon Lords stepped down from their position to serve Milim. And Rimuru officially joined the council of Demon Lords, now named Octagram. Over in Tempest, all the residents that the humans killed were brought back to life, and the town continues its day-to-day life. Rimuru sent Youm, his group of adventurers, and Diablo to take control of Falmuth (the nation that attacked Tempest). Hinata Sakaguchi, a former student of Shizu, learns that she didn’t kill Rimuru, which can only mean there will be a round two. And Finally, Yuuki Kagurazaka was revealed to be working with Clayman. Is he our new antagonist? The film’s events will most likely not be expanded on (much to my disappointment), but there’s always a chance that Hiiro or Towa will be mentioned.
The world of Slime is in a transition period. Tempest continues to grow and become a bigger influence on the surrounding kingdoms. Falmuth is soon to have a new government created by Youm and Diablo. The number of Demon Lords has dropped from 10 to eight, with kingdoms such as the Beast kingdom now being controlled by Milim. The kingdom of Raja from the Scarlet Bond has been freed from its curse and has allied itself with Tempest. Multiple mysterious parties have also begun to take an interest in Rimuru and Tempest, but at this moment, we don’t know much about them. The only bit of info we have is that the Moderate Harlequin Alliance is being paid to mess with Rimuru, and the Church still hates everything to do with Tempest. For the other kingdoms, such as Dwargon, it’s business as usual, with nothing special going on that we know of.
Rimuru has become a full-fledged Demon Lord, joining Milim and the others in the newly named Octagram. After being revived, Shion has grown immensely more powerful, and now anything she cooks tastes delicious (even if it looks disgusting). The other warriors amongst Rimurus forces, such as Benimaru and the others, have all received power increases thanks to Rimuru becoming a Demon Lord. Milim has returned to being her fun-loving self, dodging her responsibilities and wasting time with Rimuru. Hinata has begun to head towards Tempest to fight Rimuru again, which can only end well. Aside from these major developments, most of the other characters are continuing with their lives. Gobta and Gabiru are still idiots, and Rigurd is still in charge of the day-to-day events in Tempest. But that will most likely change when season 3 drops and shakes things up.
Because That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is adapted from a light novel, we can get an understanding of where season 3 is heading. Looking ahead, it appears the next few arcs will focus on Hinata and the Holy Church hunting down Rimuru. This means we’ll probably get some more corrupt priests manipulating Hinata and others like her to go and kill the residents of Tempest. This conflict will most likely take up most of season three, as the following arc is all about a festival, which is quite the tonal shift (but Slime is used to these by now). If I were to guess, I’d say the conflict with the Church will take up 12-18 episodes, with the last six adapting the festival to close out the season.
