I closed out my Sweet Home 2 review by saying that I hope season 3 will be its final one. Well… how wonderful it would be if all my wishes would come true like this. That’s right. A so far fantastic series is coming to an end. Yes, I am a bit sad, but if I trust anyone to give us a wonderful wrap-up on this survivor story, I trust the Sweet Home crew.
So, before the final season drops, I wanted to share some of my predictions with you all based on what we learned so far. Predictions are hard to get right but it’s fun to try for a show that’s so near and dear to my heart.
If you are new to this series and need a quick recap, let me share my previous articles with you. I wrote an in-depth recap article about season 1 and then—obviously—reviewed season 2. Read those two and then come back here to predict things with me.
I want to get the most painful one out of the way. Actor Lee Jin-Wook, who plays the gangster with a heart of gold, has been my favorite since season 1. The production really tried to make us believe for a second that he died at the end of the first season, but thanks to the parasitic monster Ui-myeong, he is resurrected and comes back as a gangster who no longer has a heart of gold. Which, you know, I love my bad boys, so wasn’t that depressing of a change for me. However, I think the turn of events for his character also signals that he will be gone by the end of the story.
Ui-myeong was a human-turned-monster – later referred to as neohuman – who embraced the change from the beginning. Monsterization, in his mind, was a step in evolution basically. Before he escapes from the labs, he also experiences firsthand what a bunch of terrified humans will do to justify their horrible actions toward those who turned monsters. So, by the time he is in Sang-wook’s body, assuming control, he is doing everything in his power to stop Hyun-Su (Song Kang) from going through the same things he did. See… he is a good guy. However, Hyun-Su believes that he can only keep his humanity (and avoid full monsterization) by taking part in the human’s tests to develop a vaccine. No matter what Sang-Wook does, they both end up in captivity, one willingly one… not so much. That’s the point where Sang-Wook’s anger towards the ignorance and brutality of humans becomes too big to contain. He breaks free along with Hyun-Su, who also realizes that he turned to the wrong people no matter how selfless his idea was. Before the lab goes into complete chaos, they have a final fight, where it is uncertain who comes out on top.
They both survived as we find out later on, however, it is clear that Sang-Wook is done with humans by that point and fully believes in the supremacy of the new wave of neohumans who are emerging. Based on the trailers alone and some of the official images that Netflix released I think it is safe to assume that Sang-Wook is now fully on the evil side of the story.
What I can see happening, given his powers, is a big final fight where he will lose to Hyun-Su but will try to take over our hero’s body. Hyun-Su sacrifices himself to save the humans from Sang-Wook and ends both of their lives. I am afraid that none of them will come out of this alive in the end, as sad as that makes me.
95% Prediction Confidence
Given how important a role Eun-Yoo (Go Min-Si) played in both seasons AND the fact that Eun-Hyeok (my beloved Lee Do-Hyun) got resurrected for the final season proves to me that they will be the last ones standing. The siblings were a crucial part of season 1. Eun-Hyeok quickly became the leader of the group in Green Home and took it upon himself from the beginning to help others and… well, make sacrifices if it was necessary. He basically did everything to protect his VERY bratty little sister. Eun-Yoo was mostly hiding behind the persona of the cool chick who doesn’t care about anything, but his true, kind, and caring nature shone through the cracks. Once she lost everything, she became a true survivor by season 2, who still firmly believed that her brother was alive. After all, Eun-Hyeok made a promise to her that he would return. And he did just that.
I think it is pretty safe to assume that they won’t “kill” Eun-Hyeok again, and while there’s a tiiiiny chance that Eun-Yoo could bite the dust, I don’t think they will off her either. Looking back at the previous seasons it would feel completely unfair to lose the siblings at the end. I will go even further and have a wild guess that Eun-Yoo and Eun-Hyeok will be the ones uniting humans and neohumans by the end. Obviously… knowing that this show ruthlessly kills off the characters we love, I might have to leave this delulu world I created and realize that it is highly possible that they will kill them too. But until the final season drops, let me live my best life. Thank you.
80% Prediction Confidence
Alright, so this one I am not so sure about. My prediction is that there will be humans left by the end, people who will never go through the monsterization. The only reason I am not 100% sure about this is because season 2 heavily implied that whatever this process is, it will happen to everyone.
Furthermore, we saw that it changed as well. People were able to hide what they were going through from others, while that was nearly impossible in season 1. When the very excessive nosebleed started for someone, it took very little time for them to turn into monsters. However, season 2 changed that, planting a new fear in me… and all the other viewers. Clearly, I think Dr. Lim (Oh Jung-Se) will play a very important role in discovering exactly what’s going on with the whole monsterization process and how it is evolving.
The other thing that seems to undermine this theory a bit is that Yi-Kyung’s (Lee Si-young) daughter is a rapidly growing human-looking monster who can turn people into monsters with just a touch. It was also clear by the end of season 2 that she hates all humans, as she experienced nothing but the worst when it comes to them. There are images released implying that Sang-Wook will take the girl under his wings and might use her to turn all remaining humans. So… I left this theory in the third place because it doesn’t stand on solid ground.

Alright.
These were my main 3 predictions for Sweet Home’s final season. I am over the moon excited to see the conclusion of this absolutely amazing story. I am worried about all the characters I grew to love so much, but at the same time I can’t wait to experience the end of their story. Song Kang and Lee Do-Hyun are fulfilling their military duties so this will be the last chance for the next two years to see them on our screens.
