Hello there!
A little Star Wars reference straight off the bat because today, we are talking about some awesome Star Wars news.
For those Star Wars fans who live in the outer rim and didn’t hear the news…Official Star Wars accounts on social media have announced that two new projects are coming. The first is The Mandalorian and Grogu, a film starring our favorite small screen characters directed by Jon Favreau coming to the BIG SCREEN!!!! The second, which I am delighted to say, is Ahsoka season 2!
So, with that being all said and out of the way, let’s talk about the new Mando film first. This is obviously following where they left off in Mando season 3. However, this is not called Mandalorian Season 4 and instead sports the simple title of The Mandalorian and Grogu. Say what you will, but I believe this title is clever. Anything centered around the adorable little green fella is bound to attract viewers, casual and hardcore. This title, much like the series, grabs the audience by telling them exactly what they’re going to get.
What does this mean for the overall Star Wars timeline? Well, that is TBD, but I have a theory and no Bothans are going to have to die for this data stream. Given that Mando and Grogu are alive and well in the New Republic days, maybe they could help save Ahsoka after the predicament she got herself into in the finale of her series. They may explore more about Grogu’s Mandalorian training while being force-sensitive. I personally would love to see Grogu master his force abilities to the point where he can tame the Mythosaur that we saw in Mando season 3. So many ways this film could go, right?!
What I know is that this movie sounds like it is in good hands, with direction by Jon Favreau and being produced by Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, and Dave Filoni.
Showing the next Mando adventure in the form of a 2 hour film is a good idea. While I enjoyed Mando Season 3, the general consensus was that it had too much filler. This leads me to believe that, being in film format, the story will have to be concise! I can see why people didn’t appreciate the filler episodes because they don’t want to be sidetracked simply because there’s time to do so. It brings the journey to a halt. Being a movie, we don’t have the time to waste, so hopefully, we only get the super important storyline that finally answers the big questions about Grogu and more character development on our man Mando.
While I loved season 3 because it’s Star Wars, c’mon, I am super keen for this movie. Perhaps we’ll get them time-jumping a few years to show how far Grogu has progressed in his training? Or more time elaborating on Grogu’s past in the Jedi Temple? Will we see more of Anakin and Luke Skywalker?
Ahsoka season 2 was also announced alongside the Mando movie. Ahsoka season 1 was solid, with Dave Filoni at the wheel driving it all the way home. Clone Wars and Rebels fans, in particular, were in for a treat because this brilliant series gave us a whole live-action crew from Star Wars Rebels and Clone Wars.
Fans have long-awaited answers to what happened to Ezra at the end of Star Wars Rebels, and Ahsoka absolutely delivered. Season 2, then, should be no different, hopefully showcasing more Grand Admiral Thrawn, Ezra Bridger, and most importantly…ANAKIN!!! Honestly, at this point, Hayden Christensen is a worldwide treasure and must be protected at all costs!
Two new projects!!! This is brilliant news for Star Wars fans everywhere. To be given a Mando film is surely something to behold. This must be a story that is just too important and impactful for the small screen, especially since the last cinematic Star Wars outing was in 2019 with Rise of Skywalker.
We are also all eager to see more Anakin and Snips, too, because that Clone Wars flashback episode was…*chefs kiss* delicious!
Let’s hope that this new Mando movie will somehow bring all the live-action characters onto the big screen. Does this mean we will see Mando and Grogu alongside Boba, Ahsoka and her crew, and the Jedi master himself, Luke? Will this be a team-up for them to take down Grand Admiral Thrawn, who, after seeing him at the end of Ahsoka, is now on his merry way to Dathomir to take his role as heir to the Empire?
As a final note, I hope that the Mando film will be consistent with the vision of the character development and storytelling of the series. This should feel like a natural progression for Mando and Grogu and not something that feels like it has been run through an AI story generator.
It’s safe to say that Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have united the fans through The Mandalorian and Ahsoka.
May the force be with you.
