As the die-hard Gears Of War fan that I am, I cannot express the excitement that filled my soul when I heard the latest Xbox news going around the internet.
On the latest episode of The XboxEra Podcast, reliable insider, Nick “Shepshal Nick” Baker shared during the Rumor Mill segment, news that Xbox is giving another Microsoft franchise “The Master Chief Collection” treatment. The two top predictions going around are that it’s between Gears Of War or Fable.
I personally would not be upset if it were one or the other. Both game series helped define the Xbox into what it is today and well deserve the honor of having such treatment. As much as I think it could be Fable getting the collection treatment, I’m leaning more toward it being Gears. I don’t expect the next installment of Gears to release for at least another few years due to developer The Coalition switching over to Unreal Engine 5. I see this as a way to keep fans interested in the IP until Gears 6 is ready to show itself.
Fans of the series would have an abundance of content to chew on for years if a “Marcus Fenix Collection” came out. Some features could possibly include the campaigns of all main Gears games, with even the inclusion of the spin-off Gears Judgment. Also, we could maybe see the return of the vast majority of maps from previous titles that would provide countless hours of fun between online VS and the ever-popular Horde mode. At the moment there is no word on when it may be released, but if I were to guess I would say either holiday 2022 or early 2023. Regardless of if it’s Gears or Fable, you can bet that you will see me among the millions of Gears fans on day one playing it feverishly.
Which Microsoft franchise do you think is getting the Master Chief Collection treatment? Is it Gears, Fable, or something completely different? Let me know in the comments below.

Jake comes from the beautiful city of St. Augustine, Florida. Some of his favorite games of all time include Gears Of War, Uncharted and Banjo-Kazooie. When he’s not with his family and rewatching “How I Met Your Mother” or “Psych” for the thousandth time, you can find him saving the world or discovering lost cities while cosplaying as Spider-Man or Nathan Drake.
I haven’t played either series but I’m interested to see Microsoft dig around in its back catalogue for some of their older titles and remaster/rerelease them. It would be nice to have the gears games in one collection so I could give them a go without having to hunt for them to all the corners of the earth.
Oh yea. I remember hearing that Xbox wanted to start bringing back more legacy series. I had not heard about a MCC treatment for one, Gears makes perfect sense though.
I think it would be neat to see a themed playlist option kind of like halo has for Gears. I would also love to see returns of some older maps especially “Day One” from Gears 2.
I’m honestly surprised this wasn’t something they announced soon after the Xbox Series X/S was released. Gears games are one of their flagship exclusives and a no-brainer to remaster the older games for the new powerful consoles to drive sales. Excited to see what they do.

Both game series are on gamepass and are both equally amazing experiences. I highly recommend, you wouldn’t be disappointed.
