The new year is almost upon us, and that means two things. The first is that the holidays are nearly over, and we must all soon return to the monotony of work. The second (and more exciting) thing is that the Winter 2025 anime season will start soon, baby! Crunchyroll has announced its Winter 2025 slate, which is filled with some absolute bangers, including new and returning series. To help alleviate any potential decision paralysis, I’ve picked a couple of series that I think will be well worth your time.
The Apothecary Diaries was one of my surprise favourites from 2023. I never expected to get so invested in the story of Maomao and her numerous adventures inside the Royal Palace. So, I was very excited to find out that Season Two is coming out this January. Once again being animated by OLM, I’m keen as a bean to see what happens next with Maomao, Jinshi, and the rest of the characters that make this series special. With a Royal baby on the way, Maomao’s apothecary skills will be put to the test. And with rumblings of a conspiracy that could put everyone at risk, what will the fate of Maomao and the others be? You can find out when the new season begins on January 10th.
It’s no secret that I love the Fate franchise. Ever since I started with Fate/Zero, I’ve been hooked. When Fate/strange Fake released a special episode a couple of years ago (which I talked about here), I was blown away by the quality. A-1 Pictures provided the animation, and it was continuous eye candy. And now, we’re getting a full series, and it’s still being done by A-1 Pictures. I’m so excited to see this Fake Holy Grail war play out and uncover all the mysteries surrounding it. It also means I can hear David Vincent as my fav self-absorbed ego maniac: Gilgamesh. You as well can also get invested in this excellent series starting December 31st (don’t even gotta wait to the New Year!).
What would the world be like if, one day, everyone turned into stone and then started to reawaken thousands of years later? That question has been explored in Dr. Stone over the past several years, as well as showcasing the power of science to the masses. Animated by TMS Entertainment, the story of Senku and his band of misfits trying to survive in this new world has been a pleasant experience for its past three seasons. Now, the next chapter is here with SCIENCE FUTURE, and the only place to go is the stars. Will Senku reach the moon and discover the mystery behind people being turned to stone? Or will he fly too close to the sun? We don’t have to wait long because Dr. Stone SCIENCE FUTURE begins on January 9th.
I was a massive Power Rangers fan growing up. I remember getting up early on Saturday mornings to catch the latest episodes of Ninja Storm, Dino Thunder, and SPD. I haven’t watched the franchise much as I’ve grown older, but I still enjoy it to some degree. So I was very intrigued when I heard about The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World because it sounds like it combines my childhood love of Power Rangers with anime. Animated by Satelight, this anime appears to be exactly what it says in the title, with a Red Ranger being transported to a fantasy world with all his Ranger powers. That premise alone is enough to get me interested in checking the series out when it starts on January 12th.
It was this time last year that Solo Leveling was gearing up for its first season, and history is repeating itself this Winter Season. Solo Leveling Season 2 -Arise from the Shadow- is once again being animated by A-1 Pictures and is already shaping up to be another banger season of anime. After getting an early look through Solo Leveling -ReAwakening-, I’m extremely excited to see the return of Sung Jin-woo and all the other characters. With new abilities, new allies, and new enemies, this season is going to be rough for every character involved when the season starts on January 4th.
These are just some of the great series you can watch this Winter 2025 anime season. You can check out the full Crunchyroll lineup here and keep it locked to Couch Soup for more anime coverage.
