hello world!

The Winter 2024 season for anime has kicked off, and there’s a mountain of new and returning series to choose from. But with so many options, it’ll be impossible to pick which series you’ll be watching week to week; you can’t watch everything (unless you have a lot of free time). Luckily for you, Couch Soup has gone over the Crunchyroll Winter 2024 schedule, and we’ve found five shows that you should keep an eye on this anime season.

Solo Leveling

A guy is sitting on a pile of dead bodies with a small dagger in his hand. Another guy is standing on top of the pile behind him. Buildings are in the background, with a person standing on top of the tallest building. A blue portal is in the sky.
(Crunchyroll)

People have been excited about Solo Leveling ever since the manhwa was released in English, and it’s not hard to see why. The unique concept, interesting characters, and gorgeous art style have garnered massive praise, and the anime looks to be another fine addition to the series. Animated by A-1 Pictures, Solo Leveling is already shaping up to be the anime of the year, with the first few episodes all being bangers. You definitely don’t want to be the one person not watching this series. You can read my extended thoughts on the first two episodes here.

TSUKIMICHI – Moonlit Fantasy – Season 2

A young guy is holding a bow and arrow made out of fire. Two women are on either side of him. A God and Goddess are behind the three of them. The moon is in the background.
(Crunchyroll)

Isekai anime will never die out, but they will adapt to stand out, and that’s just what Tsukimichi does! It takes place in a fantasy world where the divide between monsters and humans is massive. The hero, shunned by the Goddess for being ugly, tries to find his place in the world. Having been granted the power of the moon god and the ability to speak every language (besides human language), he sets out to build a village where he can live with his new monster pals in peace. Oh, and have multiple giant monsters transform into really pretty people (for some reason).

Metallic Rouge

A woman is standing in a desert with a city behind her. Lightning is coming off her body, and her legs are covered in red armour.
(Crunchyroll)

Are you in the mood for a series set in the future with robot people that can transform and a quest to destroy nine evil androids (with no chance for a twist to come out of nowhere)? Well, Metallic Rouge is for you. This original series from Bones is in celebration of the studio’s 25th anniversary, and it’s a very fun time. The characters are enjoyable, and the fight scenes look fantastic. But don’t just take my word for it because my fellow contributor Brandy Brown has written an article on why this series is dope, which you can check out here.

Mashle Season 2

A student is in the middle with his hand stretching out. Various character faces are on different gold pieces. An older guy's face is in the top half of the background, and an evil guy's face in the bottom half of the background.
(Crunchyroll)

Do you like Harry Potter? What about the gym? What about Harry Potter and the gym together? If you said yes to the last question, then Mashle is for you. After introducing the world to Mash and his muscle-fuelled antics in Season 1 last year, Mashle has returned with the promises of even more insane fun. Will Mash squat for 24 hours straight? Will he bench the entire school? Will he learn how to open doors properly? You’ll just have to watch it to find out.

‘Tis Time for “Torture,” Princess

A young girl is looking at food and has an excited look on her face. Various characters are behind her, and they all have their mouth open. Chains are crossing in the background.
(Crunchyroll)

Maybe you want to experience the weirder side of anime? Crunchyroll has you covered there as well with ‘Tis Time for “Torture,” Princess. This series has all the weird quirks that make anime fun (and occasionally embarrassing). The series has a war between humans and demons, a captured princess, and torture methods that mostly involve a whole lot of eating. This comedy will provide a moment of reprieve after you get traumatised by a creepy smile in Solo Leveling. Want to know more about this series? Fellow Contributor Dan Morris gives you all of the details here.

There are five anime coming to Crunchyroll that you should keep an eye on this Winter 2024 season. We’ve barely scratched the surface of this massive season, but these five will be a great starting point. You can find the full Crunchyroll Winter 2024 schedule here and keep it locked to Couch Soup for all the anime goodness for your hungry nerd soul.
