hello world!

Good to see you litter-mates. I hope your preparations for the spooky season are out of this world. Speaking of, this meeting’s topic is literally out of this world. You know, beings from another world, E.T., Alf, and UFOs. That’s right, cats and kittens, we are looking for aliens!

“Cats In Spaaace!”

Boldly Going Where No Parents Have Gone Before…

This film landed on July 24, 1992. It’s directed by Greg Beeman. It was written by Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, and it stars Teri Garr, Jeffrey Jones, and Jon Lovitz.

Plot:

An alien Overlord plans to blow up the Earth; his name is Emperor Tod Spengo (Lovitz). Why? Because Earth is bigger than his planet, which he named after himself. Is he trying to compensate for something he lacks? When Spengo peeks at the laser’s planned point of impact (a Southern California suburb), he beholds housewife Marge Nelson (Teri Garr) and instantly falls in love. Using his Magnobeam (a giant magnet), he kidnaps Marge and her husband, Dick (Jeffrey Jones), on their way to their 20th anniversary weekend, hoping to make Marge his queen. Will Dick save his wife and the world? Or will his back give out?

This film is a live-action Warner Bros. cartoon! Keep that in mind, and I think you will enjoy it. The writers for this film also wrote Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure and Men in Black. The planet Spengo is full of idiots, and the inhabitants vary from human to half dog and half fish. Teri Garr is fantastic as Marge! Jon Lovitz is so great as Emperor Tod, who is egotistical and insecure. My favorite scenes are the light grenade and the killer mushrooms that would give Mario and Luigi nightmares for sure!

Earth Is Invaded By Martians With Unbeatable Weapons And A Cruel Sense Of Humor.

This film landed on December 13, 1996. It was directed by Tim Burton and was written by Len Brown, Woody Gelman, and Wally Wood. As for stars, there are so many in this film that Tim Burton could create his own galaxy, but here are some of them: Jack Nicholson, Pierce Brosnan, Sarah Jessica Parker.

Plot:

It is a normal day for everyone until President of the United States James Dale (Jack Nicholson) announces Martians have been spotted circling Earth. The Martians land, and a meeting is arranged, but not everything goes to plan, and the Martians seem to have other plans for Earth. Are they just misunderstood beings, or do they really want to destroy all of humanity?

With films like Nightmare Before Christmas, Frankenweenie, and Corpse Bride, it isn’t surprising that Tim Burton decided to make a sci-fi film. He looks to the master of stop motion animation, Ray Harryhausen, and the film Earth VS The Flying Saucers. The trailers for both films are eerily similar. The film is set in the present day, but the vibe of the film is a late 50s and early 60s sci-fi, which I love. The best part is Tom Jones! The second best part is Pierce Brosnan. Even with just his head, he is oh-so charming! So, for those two reasons alone, I recommend adding this film to your spooky watch list.

The Greatest Show On Earth…Just Not *Of* Earth!

This film landed on May 27, 1988. It was directed and written by Stephen Chiodo with the help of Charles Chiodo and Edward Chiodo. The film stars Grant Cramer, Suzanne Snyder, and John Allen Nelson.

Plot:

During the night in a small town, an alien spaceship resembling a circus tent arrives, and two college kids, Mike Tobacco and Debbie Stone, discover aliens that look like clowns, killing humans with circus-themed weapons. It’s up to Mike Tobacco and Officer Hansen to stop these clowns, or else humankind is doomed.

I admit that I have a fear of clowns. How was I able to watch this movie and even recommend it?

1. The clowns are in the movie and not right next to me.

2. The deaths are not a bloody, gory mess! They use balloons shaped like dogs to hunt down humans and ray guns that shoot popcorn.

3. The comedian Christopher Titus looks like he is 12 years old, especially when he wears glasses.

4. The love interests’ last names are Tobacco and Stone. To me, that suggests that’s what the writers and director were doing when they came up with the idea for this film.

My favorite scene would have to be clown vs biker. With all this in mind, the movie is just entertaining!

Now it’s time for us to land, space cadets! Have a safe journey, and keep looking to the stars!
