hello world!

PAX Aus 2025 is less than a month away, and we are now getting all of the juicy reveals about what will be at the show this year. Over the past few weeks, big names such as Xbox, Riftbound, and The Sims have been confirmed to be making the trek down under (Xbox for the first time since the pandemic). Numerous special guests have also been announced, some of which we’ve already covered, but PAX has recently unveiled their Storytime Speaker for this year, alongside a slew of other fantastic guests. So strap in as we go over which big names will be heading to PAX Aus 2025.

Storytime With The Creator of Magic: The Gathering

The PAX logo is on the left, and a promotional image of Gavin Verhey is on the right.

For those of you unfamiliar with what a Storytime Speaker is, they are a special guest at PAX Aus who will hold a special panel on the first day of the convention. Usually, it’s someone big in the gaming industry, and they’ll talk about their story (obviously), and kick-start PAX Aus for the year. Previous years have had a wide variety of speakers from creative directors to voice actors, but this year promises something truly special.

The principal designer of Magic: The Gathering, Gavin Verhey, will be given the honour of opening up PAX Aus 2025. Gavin always dreamed of creating Magic cards, and now that’s a part of his everyday life. Whether he’s designing new cards, going to events, or running his YouTube show, Good Morning Magic, Gavin has become a core pillar of the Magic: The Gathering community. As someone who has become increasingly curious about the game through all of their recent collaborations (Sonic the Hedgehog chief among them), I’ll be interested to hear his story on the first day of PAX Aus.

Devs and Influencers Alike

Alongside the Storytime news, a slew of new guests have also been announced who will be holding panels, meet-and-greets, and other events across the weekend. On the game dev side, the studio design director of Obsidian Entertainment, Josh Sawyer, will be in attendance, divulging all of the juicy RPG secrets he has acquired over the past 20 years. But if RPGs ain’t your thing, not to worry, because Joshua Mills, the game director for Rainbow Six Siege, will be at the show. He’ll be giving insights into what makes the competitive shooter tick alongside a plethora of game design knowledge. Joshua’s first visit to PAX Aus also coincides with the PAX debut of the Rainbow Six Siege Asia Pacific League 2025 Major Qualifier for even more Rainbow Six goodness.

If you’re more interested in the narrative design process of games, Liz Moberly will be the guest you’ll want to see. She’s currently a lead game designer at Disney 20th Century Games, but has worked for the likes of Obsidian Entertainment, WB Avalanche, and Chuhai Labs as a game writer and narrative designer. Her wealth of knowledge and experience in the writing space is almost unmatched, and I’ll definitely be making sure to catch any panel she’s a part of.

And finally, on the community side of things, there’s an eclectic mix of new guests. First is the creators of Good Games Morley, a social media channel that includes Riely, Aaron, Ricky, and Violet. These guys have been making entertaining videos about a variety of gaming content, but mostly TCGs and miniatures. Their unique brand of humour has captured the attention of many (thanks in part to their excellent use of establishing shots), and now they’re bringing that energy to a live Magic: The Gathering match against fellow creators, After Hours. And last but certainly not least, Jenny Windom, the founder of Geeks & Grounds and host of Wholesome Games, will be bringing her community expertise and wholesome gaming culture to PAX Aus. Jenny has over a decade of experience in community marketing, influencer strategy, and game production, all of which have been put to use to create an inclusive space for all.
