How to Get Hair as Gorgeous as Your Favorite Game of Thrones Characters

hello world!

Now that there’s a season two of House of the Dragon, and even a new GOT spinoff (taking place 100 years after HOD) being announced, everyone is getting hyped and excited not just for the story again but for the costumes, and yes, the hair too! From the fiery locks of Sansa Stark to the regal mane of Alicent Hightower, the show is a masterclass in hair envy. But of course, who could forget about all those braids that Daenarys had? So, let’s break down how you can achieve those epic hairstyles in real life.

You Have to Nourish From Within

If you want hair as luxurious as Daenerys Targaryen’s platinum waves, you need to start from within. The Mother of Dragons didn’t just wake up with hair that majestic (or maybe she did. Honestly, it’s hard to say). While yes, a lot of cast members did wear wigs, not all of them did, so oftentimes, you were seeing a person’s actual hair, maybe hair extensions at most.

For a while, Sophie Turner (Sansa) showed off her true hair- sure, eventually, she wore a wig, but that was only due to her hair getting damaged on set. But anyway, to get gorgeous hair, you’ll need to incorporate a diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins A, C, and E, and proteins. Think of foods like salmon, avocados, nuts, and leafy greens. Hydration is key, too! Drink plenty of water to keep your hair hydrated and strong.

Choose the Right Products

Sansa Stark’s hair evolution from simple Northern girl to Queen in the North is nothing short of iconic. So, to get hair as shiny and healthy as Sansa’s, you need the right hair care products. That means you’ll need to opt for sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners that are gentle on your hair.

But of course, it still goes further than that because you’ll also need to deep condition your hair at least once a week with a rich hair mask to keep it soft and manageable. Ideally, be sure to look for products that contain natural ingredients like argan oil, coconut oil, and shea butter.

Now it was stated that Sophie Turner started wearing a wig to protect her hair, some other people in cast did the same (the whether was really harsh in some of these climates so not everything was literally on a set). So, with that said, just remember that you can’t compare your real hair to a wig, but you can use the wigs you see people wear as inspiration.

Be Careful with Heat Styling

While Cersei Lannister’s golden curls and Alicent Hightower’s auburn waves often look like they’ve just had a fresh blowout with plenty of volumizing conditioner and hair mouse (seriously, Alicent constantly has so much volume), you have to keep in mind that, too much heat can damage your hair.

Sure, everyone is going crazy for that Dyson Airwrap for the perfect blowout, but heat is still heat- and that causes damage. If you must use heat styling tools, always apply a heat protectant spray beforehand. Keep the heat setting on low to medium, and try to limit the use of these tools to once or twice a week. But sometimes, you’re better off just using those TikTok no-hate overnight curls, as they work perfectly, too.

You Need Regular Trims

Even the King in the North understands the importance of regular trims. Jon Snow’s luscious locks are free of split ends because he’s not afraid to get a trim every 6-8 weeks (or that’s what we like to think, as his hair never gets longer). So, with that said, regular trims prevent split ends from traveling up the hair shaft, ensuring that your hair stays healthy and continues to grow long and strong.

Channel Your Inner Targaryen

It wasn’t just the story line that made everyone go crazy for Game of Thrones and the whole series itself; it was the hair, too! So, why not embrace Westeros’ styling techniques? Ideally, you’re going to want to experiment with braids and updos to keep your hair protected and looking fabulous. Daenerys, Sansa, and even Cersei rocked some impressive hairstyles that not only looked great but also kept their hair tangle-free and protected from damage. There’s been a few nice braids and updos in House of the Dragon, too, so that’s something to think about.

So, there you have it! With these tips, you’re well on your way to having hair that even the fiercest of Westeros warriors would envy (for everyday life or even just for a convention. Now, go forth and let your hair flow as majestically as the characters we all love. Valar Morghulis (but not for your hair)!
