The Spring 2025 Anime Season Is Turning Up The Heat

hello world!

2025 has already had a wild start to the year in terms of anime. Shows like Solo Leveling, The Apothecary Diaries, and Sakamoto Days have kept us fed for the first part of the year. But now a new season is approaching, and it’s turning up the heat, baby! Like any new anime season, how do you decide what shows to watch and which to skip? Let us give you some recommendations of what you should check out this Spring anime season.

Fire Force Season 3

OH MY GOD IT’S FINALLY HERE! Season 3 of Fire Force is finally right around the corner, three years after it was confirmed and five years after Season 2 ended. I’ve been waiting so long for this day, thinking that it's been cancelled after radio silence for so long. But lo and behold, it actually exists. For those who haven’t experienced this fantastic series, Fire Force is set in a world where people will spontaneously combust and become Infernals, demons made out of fire. The Special Fire Force was created to stop these Infernals and to uncover the mysteries of spontaneous combustion.

This is where Shinra comes in. Shinra is a pyrokinetic who can create and control fire with his feet, earning him the nickname “Devil’s Footprints.” Shinra, along with the rest of Company 8, lay Infernals to rest while being caught up in all manner of mystery, corruption, and world-ending events. Animated by David Productions, Fire Force is easily in my top ten anime of all time, and I’m certain this new season will be excellent when it begins on April 4th.

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes

You’d have to be living under a rock to have not heard of My Hero Academia. The series, animated by Bones, has become a worldwide phenomenon that is enjoyed by fans all over the world. But with the series ending soon, what will fill the void? The answer is more My Hero with the new spin-off series My Hero Academia: Vigilantes!

Taking place before the events of the main series, we’ll get to see the events that shaped the world we’ve come to know and love in the main series. The protagonist, Koichi, uses his quirk (superpowers in this series) to help people, even though he doesn’t have a hero license. After a chance encounter with the vigilante Knuckleduster, his life is changed forever. I can’t wait to see Bones tackle this next chapter of My Hero Academia when it begins on April 7th.

Wind Breaker Season 2

Wind Breaker was one of my surprise hits of last year. While initially only giving it a shot because CloverWorks was animating it, I was soon drawn in by the story of Sakura and co inside the cutthroat environment of Furin High School. With a new perspective after becoming a Grade Captain, Sakura learns what it's like to be at the top. With his new responsibilities, Sakura will face new challenges as his legend only grows. If you like excellent action mixed with a fantastic story, check out Wind Breaker Season 1 right now so you can be ready when Season 2 drops on April 3rd.

GUILTY GEAR STRIVE: DUEL RULERS

I love GUILTY GEAR STRIVE. I’ve put an unhealthy amount of hours into that game and have even earned the platinum trophy (that secret boss was bullshit). So I was very surprised when it was announced that it would be getting an anime series called GUILTY GEAR STRIVE: DUEL RULERS. While the game had the right style to be adapted, the story was almost non-existent, tucked away in menus so to be able to experience a full anime series in this world has me all kinds of excited.

The series will follow Sin Kiske, a half-human/half-Gear hybrid, as he navigates the world. After a chance encounter with a mysterious girl who despises Gears, the fate of the world is thrown into turmoil once again. The Sanzigen animated series has me intrigued, and I’ll definitely be watching when the series begins on April 5th.

To Be Hero X

This one is a bit of a rogue pick, but the premise of To Be Hero X has piqued my interest. In this world, heroes aren’t born with their powers or gain them through a scientific accident; they are instead given to people through trust. If people believe that someone can fly or punch through concrete, they’ll be able to. However, this also works the other way around, so if a hero loses the trust of the people, they also lose their powers. This makes trust a sought-after resource for heroes, and it’s also collected as data to see which hero is the best.

Every two years, the world's top heroes gather to compete in a tournament to determine who will claim the top spot in the hero rankings. It’s an interesting premise, and I’m keen to see what the BeDream studio (the team behind one of my favourite series, Link Click) can cook up when the series begins on April 5th.

These are our picks to get you started on your Spring anime journey. All of these titles, along with many more, will be available to stream on Crunchyroll throughout the season. And for all of your seasonal anime news, keep it locked right here on Couch Soup.

James Gunn's DCU is in full swing, as less than a year after his reboot of Superman, we get Supergirl, who's a bit lost in her place in the world and therefore drinks and is a bit reckless. But don't worry, her dog Krypto is here to pee on a Superman-headlined newspaper for comedy. Seriously, […]
