Cosplay is a big part of any convention. It’s a way to express your love for games, film, and TV by becoming your favourite character. People dedicate themselves to creating the most realistic, detailed, and all-around exquisite costumes. PAX Aus has become a place for people to share their creations with one another over the course of the weekend, but it’s not all about friendship; it’s also about competition. That’s right, The Cosplay Central Crown Championship is coming to PAX Aus 2025, and entries are open right now! And if you have no idea what this contest is, no need to worry, cause we’ve got the lowdown right here.
The Cosplay Central Crown Championship is one of the biggest cosplay competitions in the world. Throughout the year, events are held in multiple countries to determine which cosplayer will represent them at a grand final in a bid to claim the cosplay crown. For Australia, that event is PAX Aus 2025. People will compete with each other over the PAX weekend to see who will get the opportunity to represent Australia in the final in London at MCM in May of next year. And if you think that it’s impossible for an Australian to win, you’d be wrong, because last year’s Australian winner, Hench Wench, went on to win the whole bloody thing!
To determine who will represent Australia this year, PAX Aus has gathered an exceptional judging panel to make the correct decision. Last year’s winner, Hench Wench, will be headlining the judging panel. She has 20 years of costume experience in the film and TV industry, and did I forget to mention that she took home the trophy this year?! Joining her are fellow cosplayers Anaelic and Kayla Jean. Anaelic is from Scotland and also made it to the finals of the championship this year, placing third. While Kayla hasn’t been to the championship final before, her skills are next level, which should lead to some expert judging.
So, you’ve decided to give the competition a crack, but how do you sign up? Signing up is easy, just click this link, fill out the application, and you’re good to go! And if you want to know what types of prizes to expect, they’re pretty neat. The winner of the Australian competition will receive return flights to London, two badges for MCM London, two three-day badges for PAX Aus 2026, and a brand spanking new trophy for the mantlepiece. There’s also the satisfaction and the glory of taking home such a coveted prize, but you and I both know that monetary rewards are always appreciated.
Applications close on the 21st of September, so don’t dilly-dally if you want to throw your hat into the cosplay ring. If you’d like more information about the competition, application, or anything to do with the event, click here.
