hello world!

It’s that time of year again when Star Wars fans from all over the world gather together for a celebration of everything Star Wars. Star Wars Celebration is being held in London this year, and while it might be a change of location for the event, one thing that hasn’t changed is the otherworldly excitement for all the reveals. Whether it’s the upcoming series The Acolyte and Skelton Crew, or any of the number of movies, this year’s celebration has something for every Star Wars Fan, especially if you’re a fan of a particular band of rebels.

 Disney+ Galore

Getting things started. (Lucasilm)

Celebration this year gave us updates on nearly every planned Star Wars Disney+ series for the next couple of years. I’m particularly interested in The Acolyte, a show set in the high republic era centering around, as the name suggests, a Sith acolyte. The series is being helmed by Lesyle Headland, and the feel of the show is a combination of Frozen and Kill Bill (an odd combination, but a welcome one). Attendees of the event even got a first look at the series, which I’m totally not jealous about (the rest of us will just have to wait until 2024). The Jude Law led Skeleton Crew was also given a first look, but it was again only shown to attendees (ok, now I’m annoyed).

Tales of the Jedi has been confirmed for season 2. I’m hoping even more obscure Jedi like Yaddle get their chance to shine. The Bad Batch was also confirmed for a 3rd and final season, where everyone will surely have a happy ending. Star Wars Visions Volume 2 got a new trailer, and this time the shorts are from studios from around the world. Andor season 2 was also announced for 2024, which left me devastated for two reasons. The first is that I must wait a whole bloody year to get more Andor. And the second is that Syril Karn appears to have a more prominent role, and I still hate the annoying teacher’s pet (the character, not the actor). The Ahsoka series also got it’s first trailer (yay) but there’ll be time for that later.

And you get a movie, and you get a movie!

It’s a reunion. (Lucasfilm)

Some other big announcements to come out of Celebration were the three Star Wars movies we’ll be getting over the next few years. The biggest surprise was the new Daisy Ridley led movie, taking place 15 years after Episode 9. After everything that happened with the sequels, I never expected any of the cast to come back for anything. But here we are in 2023 with Rey Skywalker making another appearance in the galaxy far, far away. Then there’s the movie that is set in the time between Episode 6 and Episode 7 that is being directed by the man, the myth, the legend, Dave Filoni. This movie will tie together the plot threads from the Disney+ series set in this time (I also think he’ll tie in The Bad Batch somehow. Probs through cloning).

The last movie announced was the most intriguing by far, however. The movie is set 25,000 years before the prequels and will deal with the origin of the Jedi. Going this far back will be a change of pace, to say the least. Maybe we’ll get to see the first lightsaber (the one that had to be connected to a backpack). None of these projects were given release dates, so let’s all hope none of them get canceled in the next year or two.

AHSOKA!!!!

I skipped over one of the Disney+ series earlier, but that’s because it needs its own section. IT’S AHSOKA TIME, BABY! The first trailer for Ahsoka was revealed to the attendees and released online, and it looks awesome. Taking place at the same time as the other Filoni shows, this series will involve not only Ahsoka but lots of characters from Star Wars: Rebels. The trailer gave us our first looks at Sabine, Hera, the war criminal Chopper, Ezra, and the main man Thrawn (AND HE’S PLAYED BY LARS MIKKELSEN AGAIN). Even the lightsaber droid Huyang from The Clone Wars is making his live-action debut, still voiced by David Tennant.

This series is, without a doubt, one of my most anticipated projects from Star Wars coming out (only slightly beaten by Andor). Everything from the environments, the characters, and the overall feel of the series is everything I could want from what is essentially a sequel series to Rebels. August can’t come soon enough!

And there you have it, most of the major announcements from Star Wars Celebration 2023. There are almost certainly going to be some other announcements throughout the event, but nothing will top the excitement I felt watching that Ahsoka trailer. The next few years are looking amazing for Star Wars. Let’s hope everything can live up to the hype.

What was your favorite announcement from Star Wars Celebration? Have you watched the Ahsoka trailer? Do you also hate Syril as much as I do? Let us know in the comments where we can try to calm each other down just a little bit.
