hello world!

Hello, there, all you ghouls and goblins! In the spirit of the spoopy season itself, we’ve got some surprising games coming out this month. Old IP are going to rise from their graves and the return of the greatest monster of all time… Call of Duty.

October’s Highlights

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II – October 28 (PS4, PS5, XBO, XBX/S, PC)

Don’t let the roman numerals distract you. There is nothing sophisticated or elegant about this game. It’s part 5 ¼ of Activision’s master plan of getting us to buy the same game. There’s nothing really new or innovative to look forward to in this game as long as the shooties go bang bang and the bad men go bye-bye, Activision’s content to sit back and watch the money roll in. My advice? Just play one of the other Call of Duty games you’ve likely already bought over the years and let this franchise die.

Overwatch 2 – October 4 (PS4, PS5, XBO, XBX/S, PC, Switch)

Activision’s tagging in their buddy Blizzard Entertainment with the highlight reel going two-for-two for games that have the inherent flaw of there already being basically the same game for cheaper with years of development and updates behind it.

Overwatch 2 has finally crested the horizon after years of hype and anticipation. Sure, it’s free to play (with all the baggage that carries). Sure they’ve removed the tank slot from the game to “speed up gameplay” along with other tweaks that will likely send the fanbase into violent fits, but… it looks prettier, I guess?

New Tales From The Borderlands – October 21 (PS4, PS5, XBO, XBX/S, Switch, PC)

I told you we’d be seeing the return of some old IP in this list, and this is quite literally the resurrection of the dead from the grave of Telltale Studios. Gearbox Studio Quebec and 2K have developed the successor to Tales from the Borderlands almost as a knowing swan song to the dated, static Telltale formula that eventually cratered the studio.

The gameplay for this game shows off the usual suspects – narrative choices that your crew will remember, bumbling around game environments waiting for something to happen, and those goddamn quick-time events. However, there is some “innovation” in that there are three playable characters, each with their own unique gadgets. Hopefully, the game’s writing will be fun, and you can blow through this in a weekend like the previous Telltale Games.

Lego Bricktales – October 12 (PS4, PS5, XBO, XBX/S, Switch, PC)

Now that we’ve got the big releases out of the way, I can swing the spotlight onto one game in particular that I’m really excited to get my hands on. Lego Bricktales is a puzzle adventure where you use intuitive brick-by-brick building mechanics to solve puzzles and bring your creations to life. Experience a charming story as you explore beautiful Lego dioramas and help the people inhabiting them.

I’m a big fan of Lego, both of the sets themselves and the games inspired by these sets. I’ve played many Lego games, and I’m excited to see what sort of creative out-of-the-box thinking we’ll get when this game releases on October 12. Granted, the trailer we saw doesn’t show us much, so go into it with an open mind and see what you cobble together.

Horse Club Adventures 2 – Hazelwood Stories – October 25 (PS4, XBO, Switch, PC)

I would be remiss not to include the most exciting game of the month, and I have found it… whoo, boy, have I found it. Let me introduce you to Horse Club Adventures 2 – Hazelwood Stories (don’t worry if you haven’t played the original Horse Club Adventures, this isn’t Kingdom Hearts level of complex). You can see the trailer above and if that doesn’t get you hyped for this game, let me share with you the description of the trailer.

“Are you ready to return to Lakeside Riding Stable?

Wild River Games, in cooperation with schleich®, look forward to welcoming you back to the Lakeside Riding Stables to tackle numerous quests and mysteries.

You will have the chance to display your skills on horseback in a variety of riding disciplines like Western riding, dressage, show jumping, and more.

You also get to visit the neighboring village of Hazelwood, in which new, exciting missions await and challenges such as a  photo contest awaits horse fans.

And you might even make a new friend for life as a small dog looks forward to becoming your loyal companion.”

My god, I am so hyped for this game, ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?
